THE INTERNET: SEARCH ENGINES

 A search engine is an information retrieval system designed to help find information stored on a computer system such as the World Wide Web (WWW).


A search engine is a program that searches through a large volume of data to retrieve information, according to the specific instruction it has been given.

 Search engines

Uses of search engines;

      A search engine is used to obtain information from the Internet,

      it is used to download data from the Internet,

          For research purpose.

          To search for information on different topics.

          For educational purposes.

          To search for the meaning of words.

      For buying and selling via the internet.

      Also, some search engines are used for specific purposes like the google groups, google news, and google book search.

 How to download information from the Internet into a storage medium

         To download information into the diskette or flash drive, take the following steps;

               Open the information from the site,

               Insert your diskette or flash drive into the appropriate bay,

               On the Menu bar of the site window, click on File Menu,

               Click on Save as,

               Type in  a file name,

               Click on Save
