APPLICATIONS OF ICT
Introduction:
ICT can be seen to cover almost every sphere of human life and endeavour either to enhance productivity or make work easier, faster and more convenient for the user.
There are numerous applications of ICT, some which are:1. Teleconferencing: telephone meeting among several participants
2. Videoconferencing (video teleconference): live connection between people in separate locations for the purpose of communication involving audio as well as video
3. Tele-presence: a set of technologies which allow a person to feel as if they were present or to give the appearance of being present at a place other than their true location
4. Telecommunication: The exchange of information over significant distances by electronic means
5. Data Network: Telecommunications network which allows computers to exchange data.
6. Tele-computing: The process of sending information to or receiving information from another computer using the Internet, a modem, or a local area network
7. Messaging: Transmission of units of communication to a single or multiple recipients
8. Information search, retrieval and archival: Information Retrieval is the science of searching for documents, information within documents, and metadata about document, as well as that of searching relational databases and the World Wide Web.

Gadgets
ICT-based gadgets
include:
1. MOBILE
PHONES: mobile telecommunication devices that can make and
receive calls over a radio frequency carrier while the user is moving within a
telephone service area
2. COMPUTERS:
A computer is a machine that is able to take information, do some work on or
make changes to the information, to make new information.
3. FAX
MACHINE: (short for facsimile) A machine that enables
transmission of scanned printed material, to a telephone number connected to
another fax machine or printer.
4. ATM
(AUTOMATED TELLER MACHINE): An electronic telecommunications device that
enables the customers of a financial institution to perform financial
transactions, particularly cash withdrawal, without the need for a human
cashier, clerk or bank teller.
5. VENDING
MACHINE: A machine that dispenses items such as snacks, beverages, alcohol,
cigarettes, lottery tickets to customers automatically, after the
customer inserts currency or credit into the machine. T
6. ACR (AUTOMATED
CASH REGISTER): A mechanical or electronic device for registering and
calculating transactions. It is usually attached to a drawer for storing cash
and other valuables. It is also usually attached to a printer that can print
out receipts for record keeping purposes.
7. A
RADIO SET: an electronic device that receives radio waves and converts the
information carried by them to a usable form.
8. TV
SET: device that combines a tuner, display, and loudspeakers for the
purpose of viewing sound with moving images.
